A Day Trip from NYC to the Hamptons

Well we need a break ! and we wish we were on a break ! that is how Hamptons makes us feel. We live in NYC which pulses like for the whole day and night. and at a time when we are tired of throbbing the whole day and night, it is a day trip to The Hamptons that offers us the needed escape. When you reach the Hamptons and look at those serene oceans, your tiredness goes away. It is not like the place offers something extraordinary. but probably sometimes we need the normal things itself , that slowness, that serenity!

Getting There

The best way to travel in my opinion will be travelling from Penn Station to Manhattan through Long Island Rail Road. the round trip cost for this ride is USD 44. the only bottleneck is you need to plan a little early because on summer weekends , seats tend to be filled earlier than we can expect. plus when you plan to reach the station , you must make sure that you arrive a little early so that you can smoothly board on the train.

Pro tip: Try the LIRR’s seasonal Cannonball train from Penn Station. It’s faster and less crowded, with the added option of a reserved seat.

The other option is to take Hampton Jitney Bus. bothe Manhattan and brooklyn offer daily departures for Hampton Jitney Montauk Bus. The cost of the bus ticket is approximately USD 35. you can enjoy snacks, water, and a bathroom on board the Hampton Jitney.

or else you can ride a car from NYC to HAMPTON. the traffic is slow on weekends though so plan needs to be prepared accordingly.

First Impressions

On first glance, your eyes feel soothed and it makes you feel happy to be away from your day to day routine and you are ready to explore ! the calmness that it offers make you wonder is it worth to run after what we are running after everyday ? would it be so bad if the life had been a little slower ! the best part is when you look at those small cafes and choose to sit in one of them to ponder and reflect. Step by Step , stress fades away.

Cooper’s Beach & EAST HAMPTON Experience

First visit was made to Cooper’s beach although my preference was East Hampton main beach. but regardly , it was still worth it. The feeling of sand under the feet with the sound of wave ! at least i cannot express with words. Lougers are stretiching with books and drinks while lifeguards watch from tall stands. there is a small shack which offers sweet and water with snacks.

We did end up going to East Hampton Beach. Honestly , I like it better.

Pro tip: Bring cash for parking fees, which are common at the most popular beaches.

Explore Historic Lighthouses

Next , I chose to visit Moutauk Point Lighthouse. This is the oldest Lighthouse in New York state and I climbed to the to top of the lighthouse. The climb up was a bit difficult considering I have history of Vertigo but the trick lies into not looking down and this is exactly what I did. and trust it was the best decision I have taken. The view was spectacular and not just that , I could locate few other places to visit as well.

Shopping at local Boutiques

  1. Tanger Outlets Riverhead – Sadly this place has gone downhill over the years. It’s not the vibrant place it once was. Lots of stores were vacant and there are no big bargains here or anything you won’t find at a mall or on-line. Good thing is you can get a good walk. Other than that there is no reason to visit this place anymore.
  2. Round Swamp Farm – I chose to go there for fresh fruit. I did expect that price would be expensive but they’ve taken it too far. With that said, I would happily pay for delicious fruit, which I eat for breakfast every morning. However, the $14 blueberries are so sour that my right eye was puckering. The strawberries and raspberries aren’t much better. I admit the peaches are pretty good, but overall Dechiccos has better fruit and for a fraction of the price.
  3. Southampton Arts Center – This musuem and arts center has a lot of fun events for the whole family from young to old going on. You can always find something intersting going on.

Stroll through charming towns like East Hampton or Sag Harbor and browse the high-end boutiques, art galleries, and antique stores. You’ll find one-of-a-kind souvenirs, from artisanal home goods to hand-crafted jewelry.

Cost Breakdown

Budgeting helps you enjoy the day fully. The train ticket often costs around 44 dollars. Uber rides can total about 35 dollars or more. Meals vary, but a simple brunch may cost 20. Dinner can reach 30 or higher in upscale spots. Ice cream cones start around 5 dollars each. Souvenirs like shirts or hats may add another 30. Beach fees range if you drive and park. Extra snacks or drinks can bump costs up. Plan meticulously to avoid sudden sticker shock.

Dining Options

  1. Inlet Seafood Restaurant – the seafood was excellent and the ginger margarita is to die for. we also ordered sushi and the taste was so good that we would probably order thrice a week if possible. the only con is they take time to deliver but that is understandable considering how packed up they always are.
  2. Edgewater Restaurant – authentic italian food according to me. although a lot of people to disagree on that part. However , for me , eggplant , meatballs , chicken , shrimp – all were delicious.
  3. Turkuaz Grill – this place is an awesome choice by river. I had the lemon chicken soup. We had the hummus, babaganoush and fried liver as appetizers. All passing with flying colors!

Wineries and Vineyards

  1. Wölffer Estate Vineyard – The wine tasting is fun but costlier. The four small carafes of wine costed USD 38. The vineyard is beautiful though. We had been assigned a server. e ordered both flights and got the burrata and prosciutto and arugula pizza. For dessert we tried the chocolates.
  2. Paumanok Vineyards – Paumanorok was excelled . the Staff were really knowledgable and the view of vineyard was greatn from wine tasting zone. It felt like we are right in tuscany. We chose to have white wine and Red Assemblage.

Reflection

The Hamptons create space for a mental reset. Fresh air and open beaches soothe tension. Small moments build an unforgettable experience. A single day can hold so much wonder. Stop and notice details you skip at home.
Conversations feel friendlier in a slower town. Nature’s sounds replace honking horns and sirens. Each wave on the shore invites calm thought. Your journey ends, but the peace lingers. Life back in the city seems simpler now.
